If you want self employed registration you need to tell HMRC you’re working for yourself, which is known as self employed registration. If you register, you will have to file an annual Self Assessment tax return, pay Income Tax and National Insurance. The registration helps HMRC to track your earnings and know if you are paying the right taxes. You then need to register early, by 5 October when the tax year you became self employed ends, otherwise you will have to pay fines. You can register online, registering through the HMRC website, using your Government Gateway login.
